Beautiful!!

He Calls You Beautiful

"Hearing the Voice of Jesus in the Song Of Songs"

by Dee Brestin

"I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine" a Quote from Song of Solomon. This Quote comes from one of the most misunderstood books of the bible. It seems it gets overlooked by so many in the church. Dee Brestin takes the time to break this book down to help us understand it. God wrote us a love song that shows us how much love He has for us as His children.

I love that she takes the chapter and breaks it down to where we can understand it. It does not matter if we are single, married or widowed, we are all alike in God's eyes. One of His Beloved!!!   This book can be used as an in depth bible study in a group setting or alone. I would recommend this book for all women to read.

Her dream of becoming the first female chief of police, turns into a nightmare when she fatally shoots an unarmed teenager. Backed by her fellow officers Tess endures a barrage of media and the public calling for her head on a platter. The only thing she can do is to find a job in the middle of no-where and restart her life.

When she finds an opening for a small town police chief, Tess jumps at the chance to start over in a new town. But winning over the residents of the small, backwater town of Rogue's Hollow, is going to be more difficult than Tess adjusting to her new role. Freedom's Ring!!

Freedom's Ring

by Heidi Chiavaroli

This book was one of the best books that I have ever read, it grabbed my attention from the first page. It is written in two very different time periods that at the same time connect thru the struggles that face each of the female characters. We meet Annie David in 2015 and Liberty Caldwell in 1770, both living in Boston in two different time periods.

Still dealing with the aftermath of the Boston Masscare, Anne is struggling to find healing in her life. The guilt that weighs her down, over the injuries that her niece has suffered with from the bombing. When she learns the identity of the person who rescued her during the bombing, her life is turned upside down. She starts searching for the history of the original owner of the ring that has been in her possession since her accident.

When Liberty is rescued by a very unlikely rescuer, her life takes a different turn. Under the protection of a British Lieutenant, she finds herself falling for the enemy.  As the tensions increase between the British and the colonists, Liberty's world is shattered by the loss of her brother who she had just found. Feeling abandoned and alone, Liberty returns home; where she is attacked by a british captain. Not knowing where to turn, she runs away and goes into hiding.

Two women, separated by many centuries are brought together across time. Both having to learn to face their fears and finding out where your true strength comes from.

I truly loved this book, it took two stories and intertwined them together.

A beautiful story for faith believers!!

Wings of the Wind (Out From Egypt Book #3) by [Cossette, Connilyn]

Wings of the Wind

by Connilyn Cossette

The sequel to the Out From  Egypt  is Wings of the Wind, just like the first two books we are introduced to some very amazing characters. Several characters from the first two books have a part in this book, along with meeting Tobiah and Alanah. The dedication and love of Tobiah is very touching to the heart. A man who would choose to take a stranger as a wife,  to provide protection for her from the dangers around them. Alanah is very strong and determined woman who has never seen what true love looks like in her life. Raised in a household full of men, with not knowing a touch of a woman since she was a little girl. Two very different characters that meet in a very dangerous situation and overcome many obstacles in their path to love.

I love reading biblical fiction, Connilyn Cossette takes a fresh look into the bible stories of our childhoods. As I was reading this book, I delighted in learning more about the history of that time period. The characters win your heart from the first time you meet them on the page to the end of the book. It is hard to let go of the series when it ends at the end of this book. The twists and turns of the story line kept me plunging forward till the end of the book. It is as mix of suspense and romance that makes a very good book to read.

We find the Hebrews wandering in the desert near the land of Canaan. We meet a very brave Canaanite woman Alanah, whom lost her father and brothers in battle with the Hebrews. Choosing to avenge the deaths of her family, she disguises herself and sneaks out to battle.

Tobiah, a devoted Hebrew warrior has devoted his life to protecting his people. When he finds a unconscious woman on the battlefield among the dead. The only thing he knows is to find help for her and protect her from the dangers around them.

The turn of events throws both Tobiah and Alanah together as a married couple. Alanah does not want anything to do with living with the ones who killed her family. But her injuries force her to stay where she is under the protection of Tobiah as her husband.  As their time together passes Alanah sees a different side to her husband and the ways of his people. When danger presents itself causing possible harm to a loved one, Alanah makes a hard choice to protect them. Will Alanah and Tobaih be able to find each other? Also will they choose to stay as husband and wife?

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves to read biblical fiction!!

Bread of Angels!!

Bread of Angels by [Afshar, Tessa]

Bread of Angels

by Tessa Afshar

There is a brief passage in the Bible about Lydia the seller of purple, so I jumped at the chance to review this book. Also, I have read another book by Tessa Afshar and I loved it. She does a wonderful job of writing about biblical stories and brings them to life in her books.

Her newest novel takes place during the time of Paul's travels through Roman empire. We find Lydia learning the trade of making purple dye from her father.  Her life is filled with spending her days with her father making the dye that provides for their needs. One  day her father has an accident causing him to be unable to perform his job, Lydia takes over the everyday duties of making the dye. The young man that rescued her dad makes an offer to both of them seems too good to be true.
As time passes by,  Lydia's life is overturned by false accusations against her father, Running from the disgrace, she finds a home in Phillippi. Doing the only thing she knows she chooses to use  her father's secret formulas to provide an income for herself and her ward.

The years pass by with Lydia's purple cloth becoming a very popular item. Still, she longs for more in her life than just selling purple cloth. When Paul and a group of apostles come to Phillippi, they meet up with Lydia and her friends. Upon hearing the gospel, her heart is filled with joy that is met with a struggle. All of her past hurts and secrets catch up with her causing Lydia to choose. Does she stand firm in the faith or succumb to the fears that have chased her all of her life??

Beauty Begins with You!!

Beauty Begins: Making Peace with Your Reflection by [Shook, Chris, Shook Alpha, Megan]

Beauty Begins:

Making Peace with Your Reflection

by Chris Shook and Megan Shook Alpha

A Mother and daughter team bring to us a fresh look at the struggle girls and women are facing today. Diving into a very hard topic that bombards us everywhere from billboards to magazines in the grocery store checkout line. Exploring the origins of true beauty, while challenging all women to trade the pressure to meet a certain perfect look, for what God has provided for us in perfect love.

Our culture has taken a precious thing and created it into an obsession that has made us into objects more than humans. It does not matter where we turn we face images that feed us that beauty is all about looks. I, myself have struggled with this issue to the point I could not see the truth in the mirror.

The mother and daughter team share from their life experiences and struggles with body image and appearance. Drawing from what they have been thru they give us the wisdom to overcome and realise what true beauty is.

I love the fresh take these two women write with, they are very real about life. This is one book I would recommend for women of all ages to read.

Behind the Scenes!!

Behind the Scenes (Apart From the Crowd Book #1) by [Turano, Jen]

Behind The Scenes

"Apart from the Crowd"

by Jen Turano

Here is another delightful read by Jen Turano which delves into a time period where High Society ruled the ballrooms of New York City. We meet Miss Permilla Griswold, the daughter of a very rich mine owner. Introduced to the high society by her Stepmother, while having to be on the outskirts of her stepsisters hunt for a husband. When Permilla was approached with an amazing opportunity to use her position as a wallflower as a way to earn some income. But her position as a wallflower also has put her into a very dangerous situation.

Upon overhearing a conversation between two men that leaves her fear the for life of a well-known merchant Asher Rutherford. With help of some very unlikely friends, Permilla sets out to keep Asher safe from harm. The more time they spend together, Asher starts to realise there is more to his wallflower than what he sees on the outside.  Will they be able to solve the mystery of who is plotting to kill them?

The twists and turns that take this story thru the streets of New York city also draw us into the ballrooms of the elite. Intermixed with the excitement and mystery is the humour of the antics of Permilla and her friends. I love the sprinkle of romance with a murder plot that hangs over the main characters heads, The references to the changes in the workforce with women being able to further their education and hold a job. Reading bits of history in books well written like this is something I love. Jen Turano turned out another outstanding story that gives us a glimpse into history.

A WWII Romance!!!

The One True Love of Alice Ann

by Eva Marie Everson

This is the first book I have read by Eva Marie Everson, the thing that drew me to the book was the story line based during WWII. When I picked up the book and started to read it, I was drawn in to the story about a young girl during a time that was in a upheaval. I went thru a time period where like Alice Ann, I had a crush on a guy who had no interest in me. As the story progresses Alice Ann corresponds with her elder brothers friend Mack, that has been shipped overseas to fight the war. Letter writing was one of the ways to share news from home to the guys on the war front during that time period. Which compared to now days we have email, social media, cell phones, where we can just share news at the drop of a hat. The boys on the war front loved getting mail and packages from back home. In this story the letters that passed between Alice Ann and these two young men shared so much news of life on the front and at home.

As time passes, one of the young men is injured and sent home to recover from his injuries. When Alice Ann's best friend comes to her with a special request; to read to her older brother Carlton the recently returned home war hero. Alice Ann gives in to her best friend's request and starts to spend time reading to Carlton. As the days pass it seems that Carlton slowly regains his strength and vision back. But very bad news comes thru rocking the town to their core. Mack is considered missing in action, by the war officials.  Alice Ann heart is ripped to shreds at the news of her first love being  missing, that she chooses to stop spending time with Carlton.

Carlton reaches out to Alice Ann showing her that her time spent with him means more than just friendship. Alice Ann's family also give her the support and strength she need to pull thru the times ahead of them. When the truth comes to light, Alice Ann is given a chance to choose between two men; one who loves her for who she is and another who has fallen in love with what he thinks is her. Which one will Alice Ann choose Carlton the man she nursed back to health or Mack the boy she had loved as a young girl?

This is a very delightful story of a time of war and love, I will truly read another of Eva Marie Everson books.

The Story of Easter!!

The Women of Easter: Encounter the Savior with Mary of Bethany, Mary of Nazareth, and Mary Magdalene by [Higgs, Liz Curtis]

An Encounter with the Saviour thru the Women of Easter!!

A Review of Women of Easter by Liz Curtis Higgs.

"This Season of Grace,
Deepen Your Faith in God
Who So Loved the World
that He Gave Us His Son."    A quote from Amazon

As I read this book it gave me more insight into the Easter story, a very different outlook. Liz breaks down each verse and brings it to life with her writing. We meet the women who followed our Lord thru his journey to the cross.

Mary, mother of Jesus, Mary of Bethany and Mary Magdalene are just a few of the women that are spoken about. Each of these women played a special part in the ministry and journey of Jesus Christ. It amazes me how much women are held highly by our Lord. He cared enough to speak to the women and provide comfort for them even in his time of suffering. He put aside his cares to think of provision for his mother while he was on the cross. Then he chose to appear to a very shaken up  Mary Magdalene after his resurection.

From page one I was hooked, as I read each chapter it opened my eyes to more of what Jesus was like.  I recommend this book to be read by all women any time of the year. It can be used as a standalone or a bible study over several weeks. It was very interesting to find out how much of a part of the Easter story that the women played.

This will be a book I will re-read and take time to just delve into the story of Easter.

Deep Extraction brings another thrilling read that dives into the deep world of oil drilling. The story follows an FBI agent and US Marshall who are investigating the mysterious death of a businessman and friend. When an oil and gas magnate Nathan Moore is found dead by his wife, she becomes the main suspect in the murder case.  Special Agent Tori  Templeton is torn between choosing to stand by her dear friend Sally's side or focus totally on finding the person who has killed Sally's husband. Joining Tori and her partner is recently reinstated Deputy US Marshall Cole Jeffers, who has just come back from a time away.   As more clues are unearthed that reveal a secret lifestyle that was unknown by victim's family it gets to be more difficult for those investigating the case. Love and Danger!!!

Long Time Gone

by Mary Connealy

Mary Connealy has taken us on another wild adventure that has excitement from the first page to the end of the last page. We  have met the Boden family in the first book in the series "No Way up, where we found out that their was someone out to get rid of the family.  The second installment follows the second brother Justin, as he takes over the care of the ranch; while Cole is laid up from being shot. Justin is still trying to deal with the thoughts that someone is out there wanting to kill each of the members of the Boden family. As new facts come to light, he starts to realize that anyone close to the family could be in more danger than before. Choosing to protect, he try's to push away the one female that has caught his eye and literally fell into his life. Angie is not looking to get married again, she just wants to be stronger person than she was before she came to the west.  But it seems that God had other plans for these two and they find themselves falling in love. Will they be able to figure out the pieces before it becomes to late to protect the ones they love?

I love the story line, how it flows from character to character in the book. Each of the characters bring something to the story that we can find in ourselves. Stubbornness, strength, Quirky, outgoing and also some laughter in a time of seriousness. The way Mary  brought the love story in to play was very beautifully written. She has taken comedy, romance and a mystery and rolled it into one book.

Grace and Forgiveness!!

Grace and the Preacher: A Novel by [Vogel Sawyer, Kim]

Grace and the Preacher

by Kim Vogel Sawyer

The newest book from Kim Vogel Sawyer was very much one of the most interesting ones I have read. She pulled a storyline together and was able to share the message of standing up for what was right in the face of wrong. I love that there were two romances in the storyline, an older couple and the younger couple.

Grace gave up on finding her true love and had settled in her position as the postmistress for the town of Fairland. But when her beloved uncle chooses to step down from the pulpit and let a younger preacher take over his congregation. When the responsibility of corresponding to the new preacher was handed over to Grace, she took it on like all of her other duties. As time passed the letters increased, Grace grew eager to meet the new preacher.

Theophil made a choice and now his past is trying to catch up with him. Ten years ago his cousins planned a train robbery and convinced Theo to help them. But Theo had a choice to make and he chose to not help his cousins escape. Now that they are being released from prison, their plan to get back at Theo is the only thing on their mind. All Theo knows is he needs to get out of town and find a place to hide from them. When a chance encounter turns his plans around, Theo starts thinking about the possibility of starting over with a new life.

What might be a desperate plan to start a new life, may turn out to have a very big price on it. Not just the town of Fairland, but also the heart of Grace. Will beauty come from the ashes that form Theo's past? Or will it break the heart of a very tender hearted Grace?

Shadow of the Storm!!!

Shadow of the Storm

by Connilyn Cossette

This is the first book I have read written by Connilyn Cossett, the first thing that interested me in reading her books was the biblical aspect of her story line. From the moment I picked up the book to the end I was hooked to the story. Getting to take a step back into the time period of Moses was a delight for me. It gives me a different look at the scriptures and helped me to understand some of the events that happened  during the long journey to the promised land.

This is the second installment to the Out Of  the Egypt series, it continues with the Israelite's journey to the promise land. Shira now is living in freedom with her family at the foot of Mt Sinai. When the opportunity comes along for Shira to learn a new trade, it awakens a new desire in her. Going against her mother's wishes to continue in the families weaving trade; she pursues the calling of becoming a midwifes apprentice.

When a delivery goes wrong, Shira finds herself in a very difficult situation that has her bound to man who betrayed her heart. As the danger increases with the tensions between the Hebrew tribes and the foreigners; the flames of another rebellion flicker. Shira comes face to face with the pain of her  hidden past as it seems to repeat itself. Will she be able to let it go and embrace the love that is being given to her? Will Shira be able to believe in a hopeful future that is being presented to her.

A big thank you to Connilyn Cossette and Bethany House Publishers for providing  a  complimentary copy of  this book. This review is all my honest opinion of the book and I received no compensation for it.

I love getting to read books that are written in different time periods then our own, I can say this was another delightful read. Carrie Turansky has done it again and brought to us a book that you will not want to put down till you get to the end.

Thank you to Blogging for books  for the complimentary copy of this book that I received in exchange for a honest and personal review. All comments are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review. I was not required to write a positive review, but I did because the book deserves it.

Identity and Forgiveness!!!

Today we will be having a very special person visiting the Blog!! We welcome Rachelle Dekker, the author of the Seers series.

The Returning (A Seer Novel Book 3) by [Dekker, Rachelle]

The Returning

by Rachelle Dekker

When I heard that Rachelle Dekker was the daughter of Ted Dekker, it really peaked  my interest in reading her first book The Choosing. I truly do love getting to read new authors books, because I never know when I might find another fave.

After I read The Choosing I was hooked and could not wait to read the next book. Rachelle is very good at taking a story line and moving it along in years; without making you feel like you missed out on something. Also she takes the Christian faith and puts it into a very different way of thinking that even had me looking at my life differently. It made me take a step back and see how much we are like Elise. That we each as believers have a light inside of us that we need to let shine on all who is around us. Also being able to see our Lord Jesus Christ portrayed thru Aaron, made me realize that Jesus also walked on this earth among the people. I love that Rachelle brings the message of identity and forgiveness in her writing.

The third installment starts 20 years down the road after The Calling ended, it finds Remko and Carrington living in Trylin City with their second daughter, Kennedy. They are now facing the possibility of being able to reunite with Elise or lose both of their daughters in Authority City. As part of the Seven that have been chosen for the mission to go out rescue Elise from the danger that faces her. All that  Elise Brant has ever known is Jesse and that her parents did not want her in their life. In the darkest moments of her life, there seemed to be someone who was there thru every moment. When Elise thinks that she is at the end of her rope, hope comes in the form of a young boy. The Seven and Elise set out to the mission that they are called to do and that is to free the city from the Genesis Serum.

As I read this last book in the Seers series, my deep fears was touched there was moments I wanted to just not finish the book. But the hope of that the character Elise brought even when she struggled with what her true purpose was kept me going to the end. I was able to realize I needed to take a second look at my life and see I am loved no matter what happens in my life.

The Seer series is a must have in my collection of books. It is also a good read for everyone from the teenagers to adults.

Here is some questions and answers with Rachelle Dekker

The theme of identity is explored in all three Seer books. How does forgiveness relate to identity?

For me, forgiveness is more about the one who feels wronged than the one who committed the wrong. What if, for a moment, you believed that nothing could harm you? That you, as a believer, are seated at the Father’s table and standing with him? Can anything harm the Father? If you believe no, then can anything harm you—the true you, the true spirited self? So then, forgiveness becomes more about letting go of false belief and stepping into the true identity that the Father gave to you. I know it’s radical, but belief like that could change the world, don’t you think?

What themes are explored in this book?

Identity is something I am always exploring, so that’s no different in The Returning. But in this novel I took a really hard look at forgiveness and how that relates to our journey of discovering who we really are.
.

How have Carrington and Remko developed as characters throughout this series?

Well, we meet them as young adults, just out of their teen years, and we find them middle-aged in book three. So we’ve journeyed quite a bit of life with them. They have grown and changed, as people do, and even in this last novel they struggle with remembering their true identities. I believe life is always stretching us and showing us different ways to love, so their growth reflects that.

You talk about the power of belief in the book. What is the purpose of faith, and what makes faith so powerful in people’s lives?

Belief and faith are everything. We form our own realities. We make judgments based on the past and what we think the future will bring; then we shape our idea of what we are capable of around those beliefs. Imagine if we truly believed we were infinite sons and daughters of the creator. How different would the world look then? When we believe and have faith in who the Father calls us, then the world looks pretty different.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Tyndale Publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Faith, Hope and Love!!!

Fraying at the Edge

by Cindy Woodsmall

With the second installment of The Amish of Summer Grove, we return to find the lives of Ariana Brenneman and Skylar Nash turned all upside down. Both girls have found out that they had been switched at birth and now are to spend a whole year living with their birth families. With only one link to there old lives, each of these girls have to take another look at the world around them. Each from very different worlds now having to take another look at their lives and decide what is the next step to take.

Cindy Woodsmall has brought us another very heartwarming series, that reaches out to each one of us and pulls us in. The story line is about two babies switched at birth, that both come from two very different backgrounds. It is not easy to be uprooted from all you ever known and be placed in a total opposite lifestyle. The way Cindy takes each of the families and intertwine each of their stories, while keeping us turning each page is outstanding.

I loved reading this series, It grabbed me from page one of the first book and kept me wanting to know what was going to happen next in these young girls lives. I can say this is not your average amish fiction read, this is very much a must read for all. I can't wait to read the third installment to this series.

I received this book from Blogging for Books to read and review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are all my own.
