A Rebel Heart (Daughtry House Book #1) by [White, Beth]

A Rebel Heart(Daughtry House series)

Beth White

In the new series by Beth White, we are introduced to the time period after the Civil War. A time when our country was still healing from the devastation that had been left behind.  She introduces the Daughtry sisters; three young women raised in the deep south that is trying to salvage what is left of their beloved home. The eldest sister Selah meets Levi, a northerner; who offers her a solution to their money struggle. Selah's family has been hurt by the Yankees, so she has to keep her guard up around this one. But she never thought she would ever fall in love with one.

This is the third book I have read that was written by Beth White and each time she has written a story that draws the reader in to it. This is what I love about her books, they touch the readers and we learn about the time period of struggles and healing.

The Hidden Side!!

The Hidden Side by [Chiavaroli, Heidi]

The Hidden Side

by Heidi Chiavaroli

In her second novel Heidi carries on her split time  story line, the present and the past come together. She has a delightful way of telling a story that intrigues the readers into wanting to find out what happens at the end of the  book.  I truly loved getting to read this story that touches our hearts with history  and real life issues.

We meet Natalie Abbott in 2016 and Mercy Howard 1776, New York. Both women have been faced with a tragedy that has effected their lives in more ways than they could have ever imagined. Natalie, a mom of twins, a successful DJ and loving wife; Mercy a colonial girl living in the revolutionary time. One day when Natalie is searching for answers to her children's estrangement, she finds the journal of Mercy Howard. Unbeknownst to Natalie this journal is something she was going to need in the days to come.

Mercy Howard is in love with a special man, but the tide turns as her life is turned upside down at the hanging of her beloved Nathan Hale. When she is asked to join the rebels in defending their beloved  country, she does not hesitate to look back. She sees is as an opportunity to honor her beloved and to help her family become free from the rule of the British.

Every day Natalie puts on a facade as Sky offering sage advice to all her beloved listeners. One day when her life is turned upside down with the news of a school shooting. Upon her arrival at the school she is met with more harsh news it is her beloved son who was the shooter. Stunned all she can do is be by her daughters side at the hospital.

In the days to follow, Natalie is at a lost o how to bring healing back to her family, as she reads Mercy's journal it brings her to see what she is truly looking for in her life "God's grace and love"

Under a Cloudless Sky!!

Under a Cloudless Sky

by Chris Fabry

The present and the past meet in this book about a Southern Coal mining town fighting to survive in a time where the big companies rule. We meet several very interesting characters in this storyline. Two of them are  Hollis Beasley, a landowner who is fighting to keep the land that his family had owned for years. Also feisty Ruby Handley Freeman whose children think that she is need of some fresh direction her life. Two very different people both taking a stand for something in their lives, paths that have crossed in the past.

The storyline goes back and forth from 1933 to 2004, telling a story from the childhood of dear 83 yr old Ruby.   A story that has been hidden for years and is now begging to be told to her loved ones. The truth that has been kept quiet of what happened the day of the Massacre of 1933. Hollis's granddaughter has a interest in writing a article for the memorial that is being set up for the victims of the massacre.   When she reaches out with an invitation to Ruby to come to the grand opening of the Company Store Museum. She is turned down with a flat "no", but this has Ruby thinking about her past and going back to where she came from to visit. After some issues with her children, Ruby decides to go back to the mining town of Beulah Mountain. Ruby' s journey is a hard one, with some bumps and bruises on the way. Along the way her children realize they are taking their mother for granted and have forgotten to think of her as a person.

Hollis is having to make a decision  does he hold onto the land or provide a more comfortable life for his precious wife who was struggling to live thru each day.  As he watches all his neighbors sell out to the big company that has came to rejuvenate his beloved Beulah mountain. His stance is interrupted by a proclaimed savior for the town, who  is looking to make profit off of the coal in the area.

Unbeknownst to both of these character their lives are going to intersect with each other. The childhood friends Ruby and Bean's story will reveal the truth of that fatal day in 1933.

Chris Fabry has taken a story and presented it in a very amazing way that grabs the readers attention and takes them to the end with a very surprising twist.

The Voice Of God!!

by Mark Batterson

Have you ever longed to hear the voice of God in your life? In the days of the Bible times, it was something that was part of the lives of the Israelite.  The best-selling author of the book, Circle Maker introduces us to discovering the 7 languages of God.

The voice that spoke the world around us into existence and breathed life into each human being is the same voice that spoke to Joseph in the prison and closed the mouths if the lions for Daniel in the lions den. That voice is the voice of God, who longs to speak love and hope into all of our lives. His voice comes as a whisper, not to make it difficult for us to hear him, but to draw us closer to him.

If you are like many people it is hard to believe that God still speaks in our lives. Mark Batterson truly believes that God does speak to us!! Diving into this book we can open a door to decipher the Seven Languages of God; Scripture, Desires, Doors, Dreams, People, Promptings and Pain.

This book helps us to open our ears to hear what God is wanting to say to us!!!

Judah's Wife!!

Judah's Wife (The Silent Years Book #2): A Novel of the Maccabees by [Hunt, Angela]

Judah's Wife: The Silent Years #2

By Angela Hunt

In the second installment of "The Silent Years" series we meet a young Leah on the eve of the time for a choice to be made of who is to be her husband. To her surprise the man who had rescued her and her friend from a young group of Hellene's. This man that her father has chosen for her to marry, is her way out of the home of strife and contempt. But then the peace that Leah has longed for is interrupted by Judah's Father's plan resist the King's decree. This resistance leads to a war that costs her father in laws life and put Judah, in charge of the resistance.

The one thing Leah has longed for is a home that is full of peace is being taken from her by her husbands choice to fulfill his fathers dying wish. She can not understand why her new family has chosen to stand for the One True God. Also, Leah does not understand what kind of God would destroy her chance at peace.

This story is told thru the eyes of the young wife of Judah, who learns about what love requires..... courage and sacrifice.

This story is very much well written, Angela Hunt has brought us another biblical novel that will touch all of our hearts. Leah's story speaks of a transformation from seeking peace in our lives to embracing the love that God has for us.
