Hope in the Darkness!!

Hope Prevails: Insights from a Doctors Personal Journey through Depression

by Dr Michelle Bengtson

As a board-certified neuropyschologist, Dr Michelle Bengtson has seen the devastation that depression causes to people. In her practice she prescribed the most effective  treatments for her patients. When one day the tables turned and she was now the patient suffering from depression; struggling just to get thru one day at a time. Using the same treatments that she prescribed for her patients, she felt worse than before. Seeking to find the hope she needed to overcome depression she turned to the one book that showed her grace, The Bible.

Taking from her experience, Dr Bengston writes the words that most people struggling with depression will recognize. Taking her training and blending it with a vital missing piece, she shows us that we can pull thru even if it does not feel like we are going to make it.

If you are someone who is struggling with depression or you know someone who is this is the book for you to read. My dear husband struggles with depression and it has hit him so hard he made a sad choice to leave me. This book has help to open my eyes to what depression does to you and how hard it is just to pull yourself out the pit you have fell in. Having dealt with a slight bout of depression, I thought I was helping my hubby by just trying to be there and cheer him up. But I alone could not do that, God from above is the one who gives us the hope to get thru this time of darkness.

Really Bad Girls of the Bible!!

Really Bad Girls of the Bible

More Lessons from Less-than Perfect Women

by Liz Curtis Higgs

She did it again, Liz Curtis Higgs has taken the bad girls of the Bible and brought them to life in her latest book. We are introduced to some very overlooked women in the Bible, Jael, Medium of En-dor, Athalia and Herodias. Also some women that touched lives thru the things they did, Bathsheba, Tamar, the Adulteress and the Bleeding Woman. Each of these women did things that were bad or something that was considered bad in that time period in the case of the Bleeding Woman. Each chapter highlights one of these womens stories and at the end it gives us insight that we can learn from each of these women.

I loved reading Slightly Bad Girls of the Bible, so when I got the chance to review this book I jumped at it. Liz does an amazing job of taking the stories of the women in the Bible and bringing them to life for us 20th century women. I would recommend this book to anyone as a study of the bible

I wish He had come with Instructions

The Woman's Guide to a Man's Brain

by Mike Bechtle

Oh my, there are times I wish I had this book before I gotten married. But truthfully it has came at the right time in my life. I struggle with talking to my dear husband and at times I was not able to understand why he went silent. After reading this book it has opened my eyes to how a man's brain works. We women are and can be very complicated, while men can be very simple and straight forward. This book is a must for all women it will help each of us understand our men better.

Ben-Hur, A tale of Christ!!

Ben-Hur A Tale of the Christ

by Carol Wallace

One of the bestselling novels of all time is back, Lew Wallace's great-great granddaughter has breathed new life into it for today's readers. It was really interesting to take a step back into the time period that Jesus lived in. The storyline starts with young Judah Ben-Hur going to meet his best friend after having not seen each other for several years. The years have passed these young men and changed each of them in very vast way that touches their lives. It will be years later before these two former friends turned enemies face off in the big chariot race. But the underlying story that runs thru this story is how Christ touched the lives of a family in several different ways.

This is my first time ever reading this book, it was exciting to be able to review this book. From the moment I picked up the book to read it till the end of it, it held my attention and made me want to see the movie.

This book was given to me for free by Tyndall blogging for an honest review.
