My Dating Journey: Meeting My Hubby

My Dating Journey: Meeting My Hubby

I did not start dating till I was twenty years old, my first date was with a guy that I had met thru a mutual friend. I truly enjoyed going out on the date with this guy, but we did not hit it off very well. I was told by the mutual friend that I talked to much. It was a year before I went on another date with a guy that my boss had wanted me to meet. He was interesting, but he did not like that I was focused on volunteering as an EMT/FF. I even went on a few blind dates, each of them ended up not calling me back. One of my rules for dating was I only went out once with the guy and if I did not feel a connection with him I did not go out with him again. I struggled with being single and not having someone to be with. I dedicated myself to volunteering with my local fire and EMS company. Also I spent my weekends volunteering at a dirt racetrack with our ambulance. It was not till I was 30 did I meet the guy that would sweep me off my feet. As a little child I had a very dear older lady tell me that one day some young man would come and sweep my feet.  Growing up I just pushed this thought to the side and did not believe it would happen till one day it did.

It was a Saturday evening at the race track and we was having a good evening till one of the 270 sprint cars wrecked straight into the guardrails. With the dirt flying from the wreck, our unit rolled down onto the track to provide assistance to the driver. We had to call for a rescue unit to bring in a tool called the Jaws of Life to help with getting our driver out of the sprint car. The crew came from the local fire company, one of that crew was a firefighter that later became my dear hubby. When he rolled up on scene he said  that he was very interested in the EMT that was caring for the patient. At that time we was not able to meet each other till a couple months later after the accident. We had a very dear mutual friend that bugged us about meeting till the point we decided to just give in one day.

After we talked over the phone we decided to meet up that weekend. At the same time I was moving my new room-mate into our apartment, so we decided to do a double date. When that Saturday evening rolled around,  my room mates guy cancelled out on us. So my room mate decided to chaperon my date with my hubby to be. My dear hubby was a gentleman who bought our dinner that evening and stole my heart that night.

My dear hubby still has my heart in his hands!!

Teaming up they make big plans to use Evelyn's long forgotten talent to re renovate the iconic lamppost hearts. By doing so Evelyn will be forced to work closely with her Ex-husband's best friend Trevor Whitney. Although Trevor has came to her rescue and offered her a place of refuge; his uneasiness to be around her shows every time they are together.

As the time passes Evelyn starts to see that her dreams are still there as creativity strikes her to start creating again. As she starts to bloom again, Trevor sees glimpses of the young girl he fell in love with years before. Will these two see what lays right in front of them and find healing in the Grace of God.

Courtney Walsh creates a beautifully written love story that love can overcome any obstacle in our lives. Our visit back to Loves Park brings some of our favorite characters back to visit again. I loved reading this story, getting to see dreams that was sacrificed being brought back to life.

Annabel Lee

Annabel Lee

by Mike Nappa

Fourteen miles east of Peachtree, Alabama; a secret is hidden  from everyone. Stowed away in a deep underground military-style bunker, Annabel does not know why she has to stay hidden. All she knows is to not let anyone in except for her uncle and that the guard dog that is left with her to guard her.

Miles away in Atlanta Trudi Coffey, a private investigator is visited by a very interesting older man. This man who calls himself  Dr Smith knows about the secret hidden in Peachtree. Calling on the help of her ex-partner Samuel Hill, the two will have to join forces to unravel this mystery.

This book is not a book I would read, when I started to read it the first paragraph turned me off. It takes alot to make me not want to read a book with crime, trauma and stuff like that. But this book turned me away at the first page.

As the days pass the family is filled with sorrow at the loss of a family member, until hope comes in the form of a pair of sneakers.

Will Sean find his way back into the fold and will the family be able to find closure for the pain in their life.

This is the first book I have read by Dr Leman and Jeff Nesbitt, at first I was a little unsure if I wanted to read this book. What sold me on reading it is I am familiar with some of  Dr Kevin Leman's books. When I picked up the book to start reading it, it grabbed me from the beginning with the dynamic of family that is the characters. This is the second book in the series about the Worthington Family. Jumping right into the middle of the series makes me want to read the other two books about the brother and sister. These authors have truly  written a very wonderful novel that will leave you wanting to know what is going to happen next.

Love and Mystery of Art

When she joined the FBI Art Crime Team, Serena Jones secret hope was that one of her cases would lead to solving the murder of her Grandfather. Her passion for recovering lost and stolen art is fueled by this secret hope. Her mother's thought is she wants her daughter to have a job where her daughter would not be in danger all the time. When a dear friend of Serena's reaches out to ask for help, Serena steps up and takes on a new case: a missing Monet at the local museum.  Leaping into action, Serena starts investigating the missing Monet. Along the way she gets some help in form of  her great aunt, a cousin of a member of the mob and the super of her apartment building.

This is only the second book I have read written by Sandra Orchard and I am truly hooked to this series. The first thing is the mystery part of the story, then she mixes in a bit of humor and romance into the story line. Serena Jones is a very delightful character with a family that brightens your day as you read it. If you love a fun mystery that takes you for a ride, this book is for you. You will pick up this and not want to put it back down till you turn the last page.

The Calling by Rachelle Dekker

The Calling

by Rachelle Decker

In the second book of the Seer Series, we find that a year and half has passed by and a daughter has been born to Remko and Carrington. The following of Seers has grown to a larger number and keeps growing as the people are more oppressed by the new president of Authority City. Anyone who chooses to disobey and follow the rebel Aaron is executed and the people are forced to watch the executions.  As the tactical leader Remko faces many challenges leading his team to perform many missions inside the city. Also as a father he faces the challenge of protecting his family from the danger that faces them.

From the day that I finished The choosing, I couldn't wait to read the next book in  the series. I loved getting to see Remko's side of the story, it gave a different outlook to the story. The timeline has moved forward a year and half after Remko and Carrington left authority city very smoothly in the story line. Rachelle Dekker has truly followed in her father's footsteps and written a story that holds you to the end while making you want to know what is going to happen next to the characters  she touches on a very strong emotion and that is fear and letting go of it. When Remko finally lets go, he is able to fight what has overtaken him and overcome the enemy. Letting go of our fears is a big thing alot of us struggle with, even I struggle with letting go of my fears. Growing up I struggled with many fears into my adulthood, just like Remko struggled with his fears.

Q&A with Rachelle Dekker

Remko struggles with his anger often throughout the book. Is this expression of anger connected to his fears? If so how?

Anger is just a natural reaction to the circumstances Remklo faces. Sometimes being afraid can stir up anger because it makes feel weak or out to control. This is definitely true for Remko in The Calling.

Do  you think men and women express and handle fear differently? If so how?

I believe people handle fear differently and that gender doesn't always play a role. I believe more often than not we are all the same, and that we should be encouraged that we never really face anything alone.

In the book you talk a lot about surrendering to fear. What does this look like and how does this help us not to be afraid?

I think sometimes the natural reaction to fear is to hide from it, or try and push it away. Its the idea that if we can't see it then it must not be there, but we all know that unless dealt with the unseen things often come back to bite us. The only way to face fear is to walk through it; surrendering to Father God and letting Him reminds of our true identity. Only then do we really see that the light within us is always greater than the fear we face.

Do you relate to any of the characters in The Calling in terms of how you've faced and handled fear in your life? How so?

Of course, every character I write ends up having some reflection of things I've faced personally. You can only write what you know, as they say. I, very much like Remko, have the tendency to be in "in my head" too much when faced with fear, and I struggle to let go of the need for control and simply surrender. That's one of the main reasons I decided to write this story.

What do you hope readers will take away from the story?

I hope they take a moment to see themselves as children of the Father. I hope they see that true freedom and fearlessness rest in surrendering, and that when they stand with the Father than nothing can stand against them. There is incredible peace in that truth, and I hope, like I am beginning the experience, that readers feel that same peace.

What ccan readers expect in the final book of the series?
Characters they know ans some new ones I hope they'll love!! More questions of identity and fear, but the characters will also be looking at forgiveness and letting go. I'm really happy with the way the final book played out, and I'm hoping readers will be as well.

Thank you to Rachelle Dekker for taking the time out to share some of her thoughts with us.

Virtue and Vice!!!

A Sweet Misfortune

by Maggie Brendan

The second book in the Virtues and Vices of the Old West takes a step into the world of dancehall girls. Rachael Matthews is homeless and alone, with no where to go she turns to the world of dancehalls to support herself. When he brother finds out she has become a dancehall girl, he sends a concerned letter to his best friend with a plea for his best friend to rescue his sister from the life she has turned too.

Cattle Baron John McIntyre is focused on acquiring as much land as he can to build his ranch as the best in Montana. The las thing on his mind is dealing with his best friends kid sister who has turned to the profession of  being a dancehall girl. But his devotion to his best friend urges him to go and play the prince on horseback.

Stubborn Racheal sees John as someone who is trying to stop her from earning a living, until he tells her that he holds  the deed to her parents land. Determined to get the land back, she chooses to take the job offered her in John's Grandmother shop. This new chapter in her life , brings some unforseen news and some unexpected changes.

Will these two stubborn people be able to what is right in front of them??

I loved reading this story about a former dancehall girl and a rancher. One of the things that alot of people thought in that time period is that dancehall girls also were ladies of the night. In truth these women just danced for the money to provide for themselves. Alot of  these women had not other place to turn to and would not choose to become a lady of the night. Women in this time period had very few options out there for them to provide an income for them and their families if they lost their husbands.
