In the third installment of the Cities of Refuge series we revisit Kedesh, where Malakhi is now faced with marrying the one woman he has loved since he was a child. The only thing is she had been  his older brothers wife, who was now a widow and being commanded by the law to marry the younger brother of her deceased husband. Rivkah has no interest in marrying her deceased beloveds  younger brother and makes a decision to flee the city of her childhood. With plans of using her talents as a scribe to provide for herself, she escapes what she thinks is going to be her worst nightmare. There is a price for leaving the protection of her father and the safety of the city of refuge, this price takes a toll on Rivkah.

After the disappearance of the one woman he has ever loved, Malakhi throws himself into training to fight in the battles against Canaanite's that surround Israel. Time passes by and one day he is approached by Rivkah's father  with a very impossible task to find the missing daughter.

This task takes Malakhi on a long journey into what is very much enemy territory, to find the precious Rivkah. But to his surprise he finds more than he expects. Rivkah is no longer alone, she has a child that reminds him of his elder brother. Now he has to make a choice to save both of these loved ones from the danger they face.

Connilyn Cossette is a very talented writer, who takes stories from the bible and weaves a tale that just will grab a hold and not let go of you at all. It opens your eyes to the culture and what we have read in the bible to a new light. This story truly shows a deep love for a broken young woman, no matter that she had spurned the one who becomes her rescuer from danger.

I truly recommend this book to those who love reading biblical fiction. You will not be disappointed, you just will want to read the next book to come.
